EKG Technician Schools

EKG Technician Schools Get You Straight to the Heart

Many heart patients will go through the electrocardiograph diagnosis process to diagnose cardiology problems. The EKG machine is run by a technician- the EKG technician. This is a very important procedure that involves medical expertise, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, a knack for modern medical equipment- the EKG machine- an ability to work with patients, and above all, skill. If this sounds interesting to you, than consider attending EKG technician schools.

Most EKG technician schools are in two-year community colleges. Many EKG techs learn via on-the-job-training, as knowing just how to use the EKG machines is the most basic skill in the field of cardiovascular technologies. The preferred method is to attend an EKG technician school, typically lasting two years. This can help you progress in you EKG technician career when technologists and other imaging and monitoring positions open. To perform Holter monitoring, you would receive additional training. For EKG technician careers, certification is strongly preferred.

EKG Technician Careers

EKG technicians typically place electrodes on a patient to monitor electrical pulses transmitted by the heart through an electrocardiograph. EKG testing is typically used to diagnose heart problems and for pre-surgery. Advancement for EKG technician careers typically will see progression into careers as cardiovascular technologists or other more advanced imaging machines.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wages for EKG techs and technologists was $48,300 in May 2009 with 24 percent projected job growth- faster than average- between 2008 and 2018.
